The International Tracing and Message Services (ITMS) of the British Red Cross seek to re-establish contact between family members separated by armed conflict, natural disaster, political persecution
or migration.
The services we offer include: tracing missing persons; the use of Red Cross Messages (RCM) to communicate when conventional methods of communication are down; and proof of detention for prisoners overseas visited and registered by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Our services are free.
As we work with our colleagues internationally, our ability to provide assistance can depend on a number of factors such as the capacity in individual countries as well as accessibility. We would therefore have to meet with potential service users individually to assess whether we can help.
Please see the information sheets for further information about our services.
In East Lancashire, ITMS is delivered from the British Red Cross office in Burnley. However, where possible, we can also travel to meet with service users. We are usually able to provide an interpreter.
We are keen to promote our services in the area as we feel there could be many potential service users unaware of the assistance the British Red Cross can provide. As such, we would be more than happy to attend meetings of referral organisations or community groups to speak about what we can offer. We would also be more than happy to provide you with ITMS promotional materials.
Should you know of someone who requires our assistance, or would like to find out more, please
don’t hesitate to get in touch. We have attached a referral form to help facilitate enquiries. If we cannot assist, we will try our best to signpost onto someone who can. Our contact details are as follows:
