The main purpose of the partnership is to bring together various agencies from Health, Social Services, County,

District Councils and the Voluntary/ community sectors, in order to develop approaches that will improve the health of the local population, reduce health inequalities and improve health and social care services provision in Burnley.

Neither Voluntary Action in the Community nor Community Alliance could be said to be fully representative of the wide range of interests combined in Burnley Community Network. in 2003 Voluntary Action in the Community reconsidered its remit and operations in the light of the development of Burnley Community Network. In the interest of avoiding duplication, Voluntary Action in the Community has agreed in principle to disband, but its Health and Social Care sub-group has been retained and merged with “Better Health, Better Burnley”, one of the sub-groups of the Local Strategic Partnership.
