The Islamic Garden €“ An Opportunity for Bridge-Building between Cultures€™

Emma Clark is a writer, lecturer and garden designer specialising in the design and symbolism of the Islamic Garden. She has an

extensive knowledge of Islamic art and architecture and teaches on the Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts Programme at the

Princes School of Traditional Arts in London. She is also an occasional consultant on Islamic, Oriental and European textiles for

Christie 
The lecture will first touch upon sacred art and the concept of beauty being a universal language and its fundamental importance

in inter-faith dialogue. Second, the main part of the talk will focus upon the essential elements of the traditional Islamic garden

with an introduction to its history, design and symbolism; and concluding with asking (and answering) the question as to the

possibility of constructing such gardens in locations outside what has loosely been termed the ˜Islamic world.

Calling all pianists!

Luke Jerram's Play Me, I'm Yours is coming to Burnley and Blackburn in July. Play Me, I'm Yours has found real success in

many major cities around the world including Barcelona, London, Sydney and currently in New York. Highlights of the project can be

found at www.lukejerram.com and links to all the cities websites are on www.streetpianos.com . The project begins

on Thursday 8th July with an official launch in both town centres, and the pianos will be

Burnley and Blackburn's website is now live at www.bbstreetpianos.com where you can find a list of all 23 pianos locations. All the pianos will be placed in public locations around the two towns for everyone to play for a period of 3 weeks.

Events and performances can be advertised easily on www.bbstreetpianos.com , and photos, videos and piano

stories can be uploaded by anyone. Spontaneous events are also very welcome! Your event might involve one or

more of the pianos, one or both towns, maybe every single piano at one time..! This is project for you to get creative with and make it your own. How about a triathlon chopsticks challenge? Or a world piano music showcase?? Or if

you are a filmmaker or photographer or poet you might like to record some of the activity at the pianos in your own way and share it on the website.

Press Coverage

We have already had some very good initial coverage from BBC Radio Lancashire and other press, with more enquiries coming all

the time. BBC Radio Lancashire are our official media partner for the event and are planning to do live broadcasts from various

pianos during the 3 weeks. Keep a look out in the papers and listen on the radio for more coverage of Play Me I'm Yours.

Burnley Youth Theatre presents...

Holding The Key

Monday 19th July - Friday 23rd July

Performances at 10am, 1pm and 7pm

Holding The Key is funded by Burnley Borough Council under the Prevent

Agenda. It explores violent extremism from the point of view of women. The play

aims to bring the issue of extremism into focus for young people, allowing

discussion and debate to take place around this difficult and often 'silenced' subject

matter.

Tickets are FREE and transport to Burnley Youth Theatre can be provided free of

charge.

Holding The Key is suitable for Secondary Schools, Colleges and Youth and

Community groups.
